Wondering at Spring

This year I am amazed by the flowers in my flower bed that just come up. Somehow, they just know that it is time, and they magically, whimsically appear and flourish. Moreover, I don't know that the wonder of it is something I will ever get over. Seeing spring through the eyes of Josiah and Esther, adds a completely new layer of wonder for me. So often, I must muddle through my own lame explanations of why flowers grow and seeds sprout. Why do they really? Why is it that flowers bud and trees grow? It is such a magical thing that I know my words cannot do justice to the mystery of it all. Life is such a blessed occurrence, and we take it for granted until we try to explain it to our children. Then we must realize that it is simply beyond us.

BloomingTown

We went to Bloomington Indiana this past weekend. We stayed with Aunti Vera and her roommates, Kayla and Ashley. We went to the most amazing park where Josiah got to climb a real-life spiderman web. We also went to an IU track meet and had a wonderful time with all of the other IU supporters. Esther had her first real pedicure -done by Kayla. She refuses to wear socks now because she wants everyone to notice her pretty pink flower toes. The kids can't stop talking about how much fun they had. It is amazing that they are the ones who really spent the most energy and yet, they are the only ones with any energy left. KIDS!

Our First Goal - The Coach's Comments

This video is from the Rainbow Team's 2nd soccer game. We scored a goal! Actually, I think we scored 4 goals during the course of the game. But, this one, along with two of the other goals, counted for the opposing team.

Here are the coach's comments.

Soccer - first game

Josiah has begun his first season of Soccer. Here he is after his first game. It was freezing cold and he is drinking some hot chocolate to warm up. They lost approximately 20 to 0. Most parents stopped counting after awhile... However, when asked, Josiah said the other team scored 4 points. Mohaned Yanis actually boasted that our team had won. Interesting interpretation of the game, no doubt.

EASTER!!!

Just a couple of pics from dying easter eggs with grandmother.

One more time around

These videos really deserve "one more spin." They are from a visit last summer to see Aunti Vera at IU. ENJOY!

Superheroes - liability issues, panties and the underdog

"Spiderman, Spiderman.
Spiderman can do things that you can't do!"

In reality, the lyrics are that Spiderman can do things only a spider can. However, I am thinking with all of the "Kids, don't try this at home" disclaimers out there, that Josiah has adapted the lyrics to a more holistic understanding of Spiderman's powers - skirting any possible liability issues.

Along the lines of Superhero lore, it is interesting to note that Josiah is recently fascinated by what superheroes wear, observing: "Mom, Superman and a lot of superheroes wear their panties on the outside of their clothes." Yes, yes they do. When he asked, "Why, mom?" I couldn't exactly say. Although I suppose that if I were that super, I would see it as a taunt to all of my enemies. "Ha Ha -take that you evil scum! I am so super that I can beat you in my undies!"

Finally, one note on Aquaman: he is Jason's favorite superhero. Jason has passed along this devotion to Josiah - as you can see in his story below. One must observe that perhaps this love of the underdog superhero is what has gotten Jason through his many years as a Mizzou fan.
